Awami Action Committee (AAC), in a statement today recalled October 10, 1965, as one of the black days in Kashmir's history of subjugation and said it was on this day that the beloved and bold leader of Kashmiri people, Shaheed-e-Milat Mirwaiz Moulana Muhammad Farooq (RA), at the young age of 19-years was illegally arrested in a nocturnal operation for leading the people's movement of right of self-determination from the front, along with dozens of his companions and more than 3 protesters were killed in cold blood by the authorities that night

After three months the family was informed about his whereabouts during which he was subjected to intense interrogation and was kept in illegal detention for the next two and half years.

AAC spokesman said that despite facing severe physical and psychological torture at the interrogation centre, and his subsequent detention in various jails across the state Mirwaiz Farooq refused to budge from his stand of representing the true aspirations and political will of people of Kashmir.  AAC spokesman said that throughout his life Mirwaiz Farooq remained steadfast on his stand right till the end.

The AAC spokesman said that for the past seventy years the story of sacrifice and suffering of the people has remained the same. Even today, there are dozens of Hurriyat leaders and activists, including Shabir Ahmed Shah, Adv. Shaidul Islam, Altaf Fantoosh, Ayaz Akbar, Mehrajuddin Kalwal, Nayeem Khan, Farooq Dar, Mohd Shafi Khan, Massarat Alam, Javeed Dar, Dr. Mohd Qasim, Ms Asiya Andrabi, Ms. Fahmmeda Sofi, Atif Ahmed and hundreds of youth lodged in various prisons and police stations in India and across the state. These include prisoners detained without trial, those arbitrarily slapped with draconian laws like the PSA, students and even children and elderly who are languishing in various jails for their political views against the Geneva Convention declaration for prisoners. Majority of the prisoners lodged in State and outside prisons, are kept in inhuman conditions without being provided basic medical facilities which is taking a serious toll on their health.

The AAC spokesman said that as in the past, this year also October 10 will be observed as Youm- e-Aseeran (prisoners day).A program will be organised at 2 pm at AAC headquarters Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal where AAC patron and APHC chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other resistance leaders will pay tributes to Mirwaiz Farooq (RA) and to all Kashmiri prisoners lodged in various prisons in and outside the State for their courage steadfastness and commitment to the people's movement of self-determination .

Meanwhile APHC asked people to show their deep resentment and indignation against the assault on the dignity of our women by miscreants under a plan by the agencies by observing complete shutdown against this dastardly and brazen act. APHC also strongly condemned the CASO operation in Belav Pulwama in which a house was set on fire and the beating up of shopkeepers by the police in Anantnag town. Spokesman said such anti-people acts to continue to harass and intimidate Kashmiris into submission will not work.
